Instagram app

I'm not sure if I'm being really stupid here, but is the Instagram app really as broken and lame as it appears on iOS (for an ipad user)?

My phones VPN is acting up, so I installed the app on iPad and it's one of the worst things I've ever seen. Perhaps worse than the experience on my Pixel C many years ago.
In a browser it's ok, but for one of the most used apps around, is the iPad app genuinely a pile of **** or have I done something wrong?

12" ipad pro from a couple years back.
I didn't see an option for a specific ipad app. It's just a shrunk screen mess.

As much as I'd like to never use Instagram ever. It's the only way I have to speak with some friends back home, so it's the necessary social media evil. If I lived in the UK, it would be binned off.

Yes, I'm aware I can use the browser. And the browser is 500000% better than the app. I'm just surprised that an app this popular and this big is so poorly done.
If only Instagram/Meta weren't a super small, indie company, and could afford to develop a tablet app.
