Install AMD dual core

I think im missing something - I took my 3700+ out (of an SN25P with latest bios). Inserted a 3800 X2 dual core, reset bios and loaded failsafes just to be on the safe side, booted into windows and nothing. No dual core.

Downloaded the AMD dual core driver and the clock watcher util, installed the driver, rebooted. Still no dual core and the clock watcher util is also only reporting a single core available.

Anyone any idea whats going on? I had a poke around on various sites and they all seem to have it as: 1) Insert the chip. 2) Boot into windows. 3) Enjoy dual core.

Any ideas would be highly appreciated. As a question would a fresh install of windows ever be needed for the upgrade?

Ill try the above about playing in device manager - didnt really consider that. Bios picks it up as an X2 so that one I should be able to rule out. The installs a little flakey anyway so I might just take the opportunity to flatten it and start over. Cheers guys

Well device manager has both cores shown but the AMD tool still doesnt and taskmanager still doesnt so i guess thats looking like a re-install? :)

What is task manager showing, in the performance tab, one section for a core or two?

Well... ACPI function is turned on in bios, turned off a lot of the "wake up if i cough and tap the table twice" type options. I dont see anything there that id want on (hdd spindown time, soft-off setting and the aforementioned power up if i prod you with a banana). But its definitely enabled :)

Finally got a day off tmro so ill likely get a re-install done, looks likely to be easiest way to sort it.

Well.... reinstalled and all now fixed, no idea what was up but its all sweet now :)

As a final bit to this any tips about making the most of dual core for gaming (games that arent dual processor aware)?
Can you set certain processes to run on certain cores or set games etc to run in just the second core so the windows overheads arent on the same core?
