Hey guys.

My wife has a netbook which I need to install Office on. I have the installation CD but obviously no optical drive on the netbook.

Can I just copy the CD contents to a USB drive and install or do I need to make some sort of ISO image?

My home PC is currently sick so having to do this from work.

When installing OS's - where you need to be able to boot from the stick - you need to setup the stick in a particular way - there are free utils to do this for you.

To install office, just copy the entire contents of the CD/DVD onto the stick and run the setup program.

No they'll usually install fine mate. If they don't you could make an ISO of the disk, copy that onto the USB drive, mount the image on the netbook using something like Daemon tools / Virtual Clone Drive then run the installer. Daemon Tools/VCD emulate a CD/DVD drive with ISOs so the installers won't know it's not a CD. As long as you own the original disk etc I'm not aware of any legal problems doing this as long as you dont' distribute it.

Yeah it's my disk and can be installed on multiple machines.

Guess I'll have to make an ISO as well to be sure then.

Cheers all.
