Install old game W7

I'm a massive fan of Championship Manager 01/02, there's still a big fan base for the game and regular update patches with up to date squads and leagues etc.

But for the life of me I can't get it to install, I had it installed on a previous PC build that ran the same version of W7 64 Ultimate I have now, but whatever I try I can't even get the installer setup.exe to run, I've tried all the tips from the Champ Manager forum which is full of people running it on W7 and even W8, but none of them work for me.

Anyone got any advice? I'm desperate to get playing this again.

Have you tried compatibility mode?

Yeah, tried that.

The basic advice from the CM forum is to disable UAC, close any browsers, set compatibility to 98/ME and run setup.exe as admin, but I just get 2-3 seconds of spinny busy icon and then nothing, if I open task manager there is a setup 32.exe running but nothing happens.
