Just a question about whether you can copy the install CD from XPPro to a partition and then boot from it? Will this make the install process quicker?

(make partition bootable and copy all files over?)

I know you can do it on the Mac by making a small partition and then using "Restore" in diskutil

Right just had a quick look on msfn and if I'm right the following options are available

1) Boot from USB pen and navigate to drive and run the winnt32.exe

2) run the winnt32.exe from within an exisiting installation.

quite the opposite. it will be much slower than booting from a cd.

I don't see the validity in that. I've installed OSX from a HD partition and that waaaaayyyyyy quicker than from the DVD, so I don't see why this should be any different.

OK so it is dictated by the write speed of the drives as my RAID0 raptors just tore through an install.:p

are you taking the ****? :D

what has the way OS X works got to do with anything? i give up, i really do..... :o

Not intentionally :p; it just when I did this I thought "This'd be a great idea if I could do this for Windows." hence why I asked the question.
