Install problems on an old system

System specs:

XP2700
2 512mb DDR2700
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
128mb 9800XT
80 Seagate IDE HDD

Problem is when I boot windows CD it loads all the setup files fine after the restart though it boots from CD again and starts setup all over again.

Tried changing boot orders to no avail, if I remove CD-ROM completely after reset it says disk boot failiure.

If I run setup again and try to install again to the partition it tells me there's already an OS on there so why wont it boot into windows setup from HDD after reset??

Is the jumper on the hard drive set to the correct position?

Yup, HDD is slave, Optical is master and cable is fitted correctly.

Is that not the problem then

Hd should be the master drive and optical the slave (or master on other ide channel)

Can't see it being a problem as long as there correctly setup will try again now though with HDD as master and Optical as slave

As I thought didn't help but it appears I found solution!

The harddrive access mode was set to auto, I noticed on the screen where it shows you IRQ information that the access mode was CHS which didn't look right to me.

I set it manually to Large and now it appears to be working fine!

What a pain in the ass!
