Install Windows UEFI

Hi everyone. I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a ssd and a Gigabyte Z10X-Gaming 7 motherboard. I created a Windows USB stick using the Windows USB Installation Tool on the Gigabyte site. When I boot from the usb stick I get two options to boot from, one says "Toshiba" and the other "Toshiba UEFI". I can't boot from the former one. When I boot from Toshiba UEFI, it says it can't install Windows on this ssd because the partition is MBR. I installed Windows 7 two weeks ago on a normal hd and this board and everything went smoothly. I don't remember having these issues. Could someone help me out please?

On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks. Delete the partitions on the SSD from within the setup tool.

But really, just use Windows 10. It's not the best idea to be installing W7 on new hardware in 2016.

Does the Gigabyte tool make UEFI-compatible USB install media? I know Microsoft's own Media Creation Tool doesn't, you have to use it to create an ISO image then use Rufus to make a UEFI bootable USB.

So the Gigabyte tool is making a UEFI bootable USB only. Now I understand. I have to use the Gigabyte tool because it contains the drivers.

You'll still need to do what yashiro is saying. Alternatively, go into the UEFI settings and find the option to change the boot-up mode to legacy from UEFI. Then treat it like installing 7 with a pre-UEFI (i.e. classic BIOS) motherboard.

Simliar to the OP, I could not install Win10 from creation tool usb to a ssd (that I initialized in Win7 beforehand), could this be the same issue? MBR, GPT honestly never heard of them before :( I thought installing OS was supposed to be fairly straight forward these days.

How the heck can you reset a drive from MBR to GPT? I tried deleting all partitions on the ssd in the Win10 setup but nothing worked.

I connected it to another pc and did it in disk managment.

That's true but I need Windows Media Center.

Thought I would share this.

It's not official but media center has been made to work on Windows 10.

I have been using it myself for months and it works great, watching freview HD and recording, along with the EPG works great. MS should never had scrapped it as nothing really comes close to the ease of use as this media center.

Not tried it on the very latest beta builds of Windows 10, but works great on the latest current release of Windows 10 10586.164.

I looked and looked but couldn't find the option to change it on my Gigabyte Z170X-gaming 7 board.

I find that if I use Rufus to make the install stick and set it to format GPT rather than MBR then it'll both boot and install in UEFI.
