Dear all,

I was just wondering whether I can use my Windows XP Pro disc to install on another PC.

I installed the XP Pro on another PC a few years back but this broke down and is no longer in use (in my backroom to be precise). I also cannot turn the PC on so I can't uninstall XP from it.

Can I now use my now defunct XP Pro Disc and Serial on a fresh new PC so I don't have to buy another one?

Thanks

If it is an OEM copy of the OS then from a license point of view no - it is tied to the dead machine and dies with it.
If it is a retail version of Windows (including the retail upgrade) then yes - you can transfer the license around as much as you like so long as it can only be used on one machine at any one time.

Yes it is Retail.

Still have the box and documentation.

So I don't need to remove it from the dead pc?

I can just go ahead and install it on the new PC?
