So my system should be done shortly and i was just wondering if this is going to be as straightforward as I hope for it to be.

2 Hard Drive Setup
Intel x25 Gen2 80GB - Going to be installing Windows 7, MS Office, itunes etc and all other applications to this drive including my anti virus.

Samsung F31TB - Installing my games - - Steam etc.

1)Now is there any setting I need to setup in W7 to make full use of this setup? I'm pretty sure I read someone saying that I need to ensure that the F3 Hard drive is not on auto sleeping mode.

2) Is it possible to install Steam on the SSD and run games from the Samsung F3 1TB? Are there any drawbacks with this?

3) Is it possible to install maybe 1-2 games on the SSD and the rest of the games on the F31TB?

sorry for the noobish questions. Just wanted to be sure.

cheers fella's,

Sam

1) Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Hard Disk > Turn off hard disk after: Never

2) You can also install the Steam client to the HDD and games will be installed there by default.

3) Yes

Hope you enjoy SSD!

NP! The Intel was a good choice BTW.

hehehe thanks bud! Had some good advice from the OCUK guys too!

Been reading on the forums on having to update the bios/firmware on this. Is it necessary/important? When I opened my SSD box the other day I'm pretty sure it didn't come with any CD. Guessing I need to download a exe file from INTEL?

If you want to have TRIM support then you'll need the latest 02HD firmware.

Easy process. Burn the ISO to CD, boot up in AHCI or IDE (not RAID) mode and follow the instructions.

You can install the drive as is of course, and updating the f/w at a later date will not erase any data on the drive. Link above also has the SSD Toolbox which will allow you to run TRIM manually or on a schedule since automatic TRIM only works with Win 7 using the MS drivers. Some of us prefer to use the Intel drivers since they offer slightly better performance.
