Hi,

I wish to install a brand new SSD as the boot disk in a PC with Windows 7 as the operating system. Is this simply a matter of plugging the disk into a 6gb/sec Sata3 port on the motherboard, setting SATA mode to AHCI and booting the PC with a Win7 installation CD then going through the install?

Or do I have to assign any sectors or indicate any MBR details etc, I think when SSD's first came out the O/S install was not the same as a HDD O/S install but I am not sure if things have changed as SSD's have evolved?

Finally, affter the install do I need to download and install the Intel RST driver even if I am not using the SSD in a raid configuration?

Thx for any advice

You most likely won't need the driver if you aren't using it in RAID and if you do Windows 7 might well put it on anyway.

Just chuck the drive in, boot off the Windows 7 disk and off you go. No need to mess about or consider anything else. BIOS and Windows 7 will handle the rest, you partition the drive if you want, install.

Long gone are the days of filling in HDD cylinder details etc in the BIOS :)

you first have to set the sata ports to ahci mode, then install windows 7 in the usual way

disconnect your other hdd's beforehand and just connect the ssd, once windows has installed plug in your old hdd and set the ssd as first boot device in the bios

can instal intel rapid storage drivers if you want, they increase speeds slightly over what windows installs
