Installation of Nvidia Driver update lengthy, ‘preparing install’

Driver updates always install but there is a big difference in the amount of time it takes to install on my different machines. One takes 3 minutes, another 6 minutes and my main gaming laptop 9 minutes.

Where the delay seems to be is ‘preparing install’ after download. It was on that page on my main laptop last night for 5 minutes.

I have tried reinstalling GFE and reformatting my laptops but doesn’t seem to do anything.

The only process I can see running in task manager is ‘installation module’.

Is this unusual and how long do driver updates take to install for you guys?

I have no idea what the driver updates actually do, but often when I see something like this, it is because the software uses only a single CPU core to unzip a large archive

Have a look in task manager (performance tab) while it is running and see where the hold up is.

It just says ‘installation module’ is using CPU and nothing else.
