installed 16GB but says only 15.7 usable?

Why would this happen? I've triple checked that its slotted all the way in

300mb of your 16gb is unavailable?!

the ram and motherboard must be faulty - chuck the whole system in the bin and start afresh i say

It doesn't mention you have a GPU in your sig, so maybe it's keeping 300MB aside for the vRAM?

Probably shared memory for the on-board graphics. Have you tried disabling on-board graphics in the BIOS?

Also, you're very unlikely to miss 300MB from 16GB

Haven't got a GPU yet, that's the next part of the build. Using the onboard Sandybridge graphics. I didn't realize it would hold back 300mb for that though?

Shared graphics, so it take some of your RAM

People have made worse mistakes.

A guy at my college forgot to put a heatsink back on a CPU....

I'll let you guess what happened next!
