Well I put my GTX 280 in today and now I seem to be getting weird problems.

First off, my soundcard disappeared from device manager, so I removed it and reseated it and it worked again. Then when I was playing TF2, the sound stopped working, so I quit the game and tried to change audio modes on my X Fi. As soon as I changed it, my PC locked up. So I rebooted and it knocked out two USB ports on the back.. I had to switch my keyboard to another port and then when Vista had loaded, switch it back for it to get power!

I've never had any problems like this before.. Am thinking it might be PSU related. What is the recommended PSU needed for a GTX 280? I'm currently running a [email protected], 4GB RAM, Raptor + 400GB, GTX 280, XFi and watercooling with a 500W Seasonic.

Is it time to upgrade the PSU or could it be something else?

Thanks,
Andy

I do think that you're pushing it a bit with your Seasonic 500W even though it's the best 500W out there. I used to run it on similar spec with 8800GTX minus the WC cooling and the PSU was really really hot, let a lone a 280GTX!

You'll be good to go for anything above 600W, I'd recommend PC Power Cooling 750W. You wouldn't need 750W but you may as well upgrade to something more future proof.

It's time to upgrade PSU I reckon, that Seasonic has its time :p

Have you tried putting your old card back in? If you're not having problems then, it could well be your PSU not supplying enough power.

Loving the PSU as in my spec. Highly recommended if you need to buy a new one.

I dropped my overclock to 3.2GHz and dropped the volts down a bit and it seems to have played OK for the last 30mins.. I have had my Seasonic a good few years now. Its the oldest piece of kit in my PC! Might have to look at an upgrade..

Devices disappearing randomly sounds more like software/motherboard problem.
New more powerfull graphic card could well stress motherboard more... especially when CPU/FSB has been overclocked.

Ive had similiar problems. I bought a 8800GT 2 months ago as it worked for about an hour then my pc start hangng, freezing and restarting. I sent the Card off to get looked at, i got a phone call a couple of days later and they said it was fine they had done all the tests possible for it. Any i got bk put it bk into my machine still the same thing happened. I took it out tried an old GPU my pc worked perfectly, tried the on board graphics worked fine.
Anyway, when the bloke rang me up to tell me it was fine i told him i tried an old GPU n that, so he thought chances are it was my mobo. It's only a year old but a crappy mobo. Turns out it was my mobo cos it blew up on me yesterday. I built my mum a pc a couple of weeks ago and my 8800GT works perfectly in there.
So what mobo have you got and also how old is it?
Sorry for the lil essay:p

I've got a Gigabyte P35 DQ6, its about a year old. My PC has been fine since I've downclocked my quad to 3.2GHz.. Been working flawlessly again!

Had similar problem with mine when I upgraded to a blu ray writer. I had kept adding stuff over the years to my 4 year old Tagan 480W psu.

The writer must have been the final straw because after that I couldn't get anything above 3Ghz stable.

Upgraded psu and 3,8Ghz is stable again.

Guess I was just pushing my psu a little too far.
