Okay seriously now I have an unknown device still listed in task manager. I have stripped the comp right down to just mobo, memory, graphics and sound. I can only think of it being something on the motherboard not installed but I have the Sata Driver installed. the chipset, usb, enthernet! What on earth could it be!

Not using an X1800 or X1900 by any chance, are you? If so, make sure you've installed the WDM integrated driver (preferably after the display driver, and before rebooting.)

If you've installed Catalyst Control Centre, or aren't using an X1*00, disregard this. :)

I don't think it'll be the graphics then, as this never happened to me when I installed CCC.

A quick Google search revealed that ACPI quite possibly stands for "ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface), an open industry specification co-developed by Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Microsoft, Phoenix, and Toshiba."

Further Google searching reveals that installing the uGURU utility from your motherboard driver CD may fix the problem, as it seems to be for a chip on your motherboard that controls fan speeds etc, which makes sense given the above definition. :)
