Don't know if this has been posted, but for all the new Conroe (or Allendales) owners. There is a newish multicore kernal hotfix on MS that's applicable for the C2D's. I've put it on, can't say I noticed a big difference, but hey YMMV. Supposed to improve benchmarks etc.

MS said:
Computers that are running Windows XP Service Pack 2 and that are equipped with multiple processors that support processor power management features may experience decreased performance

Note This solution favors performance gains over power savings. Although benchmark performance scores may improve, battery life could be negatively affected. Accordingly, this kernel policy change may be disabled by a registry key to allow for maximum flexibility.

The english filename is windowsxp-kb896256-v3-x86-enu (same as v4 above)

P.S. ALSO

You MUST edit the registry to make this work

As follows

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Right-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager, point to New, and then click Key.
3. Type Throttle for the new key name.
4. Right-click Throttle, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
5. Type PerfEnablePackageIdle for the value name.
6. Right-click PerfEnablePackageIdle, and then click Modify.
7. In the Value data box, type 1. Make sure that Hexadecimal is selected in the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, and then click OK.

To Disable thie new hotfix feature change the 1 (One) to a 0 (zero)

This is a handy link for hotfix's if your looking.

Cant say I have had any issues with dual core gaming with this chip, as opposed to my X2 ( ). Suppose it must be because of the shared cache or something. Has anyone noticed a performance boost after applying the patch?

This patch does not improve performance. When Microsoft refer to "performance states" they are talking about SpeedStep/CnQ altering the performance characteristics of the CPU. Before this hotfix, there were numerous timing difficulties on SMP systems using CnQ which resulted in certain software receiving incorrect timing information - e.g. games and multimedia software are most affected.
