Installed new bundle but slow SSD boot times

I've just upgraded my system with this bundle - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/defc...ghz-overclocked-skylake-bundle-bu-074-og.html

My boot times have gone from around 7 seconds to over 25 seconds, this is with a fresh Windows 10 install also. I have a Samsung Evo 850 250GB SSD, when checking on Samsung Magician it doesn't even recognise that it is plugged in to the correct port:

ACHI has been turned on from the start in the BIOS. I have checked the cabling, have even replaced the SATA cable with a brand new one that came with the motherboard, to no avail.

Anybody have any idea what could be causing this? The POST tends to hang after restarting sometimes as well, not sure if related.

Ye looks like you have IDE mode enabled for your sata devices rather than AHCI. Google something like "How to switch from IDE to AHCI after windows install"

Alternatively, and probably better, is to change the bios setting properly and do another fresh install.

I'd also be very careful about believing what Magician is saying about AHCI being disabled......sure even the latest version is having unsigned driver issues with the Anniversary Update. Could be some other software conflict at work........Google is awash with people reporting Magician issues.

Lot of initial Windows install boots may be consolidating updates etc, so does it appear to be improving over repeat restarts ?

check your bios and make sure its set to achi.

do you have sata 2 and sata 3 ports? on my mobo I have to enable achi on sata 2 and sata 3 ports as they have 2 different controllers and options in the bios (one intel and one marvel, its a old X58 mobo).

here is my Samsung software on the same SSD, im using sata 2 ports not sata 3. its in a spooler as I cant be bothered to resize right now lol

my windows 7 from clean install always says achi and I don't install any rapid controller drivers etc

Have you got Intel Rapid Storage Technology installed?

I've no idea what this is?

I checked the BIOS and it was set to AHCI mode from the beginning..

did you install windows using a USB dongle? just I know one of my USB dongles doesnt let me do a UEFI install

I did use a USB dongle yeah..

Hasn't improved at all. Taking at least 27 seconds to load up Windows once we get past the initial POST.

Howdy,

My thoughts are its not the drive causing problems but something else. Sometimes things like dodgy BIOS settings for GPU can make it take forever to load - have you updated the BIOS to the latest version? Also check the RAM, remove all but 1.

Try removing your GPU and using the onboard to see if its gets quicker, you'll need to sort that in the BIOS also. To be 100% sure as well you dont have any old installs on drives still plugged in and you have removed the USB? Check the Boot priority in BIOS to be sure its the right drive first.

Maybe some screens of the BIOS settings in spoilers wouldnt be a bad idea, defo update your BIOS as step 1.

Hey mate.

I'll try updating the BIOS but this came as a bundle so I'd assumed that OCUK had done this already, perhaps not. I've just reinstalled Windows and I'm getting the same issue.

I was having this problem before installing the new GPU so I'm certain it can't be that.

I'll try updating the BIOS and will get back to you.
