hey all, i installed the new case i got today (Zalman Z9 Plus)

everything went fine with installing the parts, when i put the power cable in the power LED lit up and when i tried the switch and pushed it nothing happened, so i fiddled around for a while the pc booted by itself when i put the mains cable in the PSU and when the PC was on and running the switch still wasnt working? but the LED in the switch was lighting up, the HDD light was working and the switch is in the right slot in my mobo, also im now having to use my old pc front pannel switch to turn it on and off, also its not the psu as the paper clip trick works every time... also when i use my old front pannels switch and plug the fan controller in that doesnt work either, its just the fan controller, the temperature monitor works fine and im guessing the USB ports and audio jacks work fine, ill try them soon, but what should i do?!?!?

the case only arrived today and i dont want to have to RMA the WHOLE case as it cost £10 to get posted here, and also the Pannel with the usb ports and fan controllers etc. is removable as one small unit and the switch is unpluggable and tiny, so can i have OCuK send me another fan controller unit and switch without having to send the whole case back as it would be cheaper for us both and this is my first buy from OCuK and i ddont want to be let down by them?

what can i do?

Many thanks!

i havent tried jumping the switch as i dont want to risk blowing anything, i also tried the audio jacks and realtek refreshes itself but doesnt say its detected the headphones, is it possible the parts are broken?

So theres no sound from the headphones? did the audio ports come with a cable with two connectors? one says AC'97 the other HD audio? which one have you used?

shorting the two pins that the switch normally connects too wont do any damage unless you got the shakes and start touching random parts with the tip.

This. Just use something small. I have a tremor and I still did it without sparking anything :p

But the LED thing deffo sounds to me like it's connected up wrong or something's shorted, you able to pop off the front panel and have a look?

I had an LED wire snag on a standoff and short out causing the system not to POST a while back, took ages to find the small piece that was sliced. It can happen easily without being noticed.

Are the case fans connected to the fan conroller? do they spin? is the fan controller getting power to then divide amongst the fans.

Most case fan controllers need power from the PSU 4pin molex which it then uses to power how ever many fans its capable off

all the fans are plugged in to the cotroller properly and themolex plugs are plugged into the controller as well, and nothing happens, the fans dont spin up at all or light up,,,

and i can try the power switch both ways on the 2 pins that its meant to go in and not damage anything? so if thats the case its not positive negative, and if i swapthe way its pligged in it'll be negative negative posative posative?

also theres an extra fan for the sode pannel and it has the same connector as a port jamed 'sys_fan' im guessing this is an extra port for a case pfan? but does it run at full speed or is it regulated my the system??

are you positive that you have connected the fan controller four pin molex female connector to the psu.

the switch orientation shouldn't make a difference, its only a momentary shorting of the two pins that tells the motherboard to turn on.

but you can try it with any worries.

yeahh im sure its all plugged in properly, ill have to try plugging it into another molex connection tomorrow just to be sure, but if the switch and fan controller are broken and i have to RMA, will i have to send the whole case back, or just the parts? because ive spent the whole day kneeling on the floor doing this and its something i dont really want to do again soon :/

This might be really obvious, but have you tried turning the switch connection on the mobo through 180 degrees?

Not sure if it makes a difference on switches.

Check your Mobo Manual to double check the wires are all in the right places.

Also, try jumping as said above. It's pretty safe if you don't poke random stuff :D

Have you taken a look inside the front panel yet, if it comes off

It's pretty unlikely both would be dead unless there's some real shorting going on, or you're just mega unlucky.

Lol, I'm used to having to rebuild mine, I went through 3 dodgy boards (2 cheapo ones that popped and 1 decent B-Grade one that was DOA) before I got one that was decent :p

Pretty sure that the switches don't matter from +/-. More likely you've got it plugged into the wrong one. :P Most of these new boards come with header extension plugs that are quite clearly marked. Bar that, I could only really suggest taking it apart and starting from scratch, slowly and being careful.
