Installed new GPU but cannot get picture on screen with GPU or mobo

PSU - Corsair RM650
Motherboard - Asus ROG Strix B450-F
Processor - AMD Ryzen 5 3600
RAM - Corsair Vengance Pro SL 8gb (x2)
Storage - WD Blue SN550 1TB
Old GPU - MSI GTX960
New GPU - Gigabyte RTX 3070ti 8gb

So I recently upgraded my GPU from a MSI GTX960 to a gigabyte RTX 3070ti. So inwas told i could swap out the old GPU for the new one but upon booting up, I had nothing show on screen. So I swapped to the motherboard HDMI and rebooted to get the bios screen up but still nothing. I kept swapping the cables between display port and HDMI and also swapped between GPU and motherboard, restarting it between each change. Eventually it worked seemingly at random sonic updated the drivers for new gpu and gamed on. The following day I turned on my PC to the same issue so I unplugged the new GPU and reset the CMOS, this seemed to work so again I played games and then turned it off thinking I fixed the issue.

I've just turned on PC and have the same issue! What can I do to resolve this given that I can't even access the bios screen via the motherboard?? The PC power on fine, everything lights up just fine, but I am stumped!

I read somewhere to use DDU to start a fresh but I can't even get an picture on the display and I have no idea what to do with the DDU even if I did. Someone please help?!

The 3600 doesn't have onboard graphics, so plugging the HDMI into the motherboard won't do anything.

Do you still have the GTX960 to hand? If so, does it work with that in?

When was the last time you updated the BIOS on your motherboard? That board came out long before the 3000 series cards, there could be some kind of compatability issue that's since been fixed.

I haven't tried the old because before I got to that point, the 3070 started working randomly. I did wonder if it was a compatibility issue but surely that would mean either it works or it doesn't?

You'd think so, but stranger things have happened. If it was my machine I'd be putting the 960 back in, updating to the latest BIOS and then trying again.

I'll give that a try later and report back

Working on/off sounds more like a connection issue to me (cables or slot), you could issue try forcing the PCI-E gen to 3 or 2 in the BIOS.

Note that the display not working until you hit Windows is a fairly common problem, nvidia do provide a firmware update.

All the cables were fine and it wasn't really i got to Windows. It was more like I had no display at all and then it just worked randomly after swapping between the outputs on the gpu and resetting the PC in between swaps. Updating the bios seems to have fixed the issue now though

Updating the bios seems to have worked! Thanks for your help!! The gpu is also performing a lot better than the first times I randomly got it working before updating the bios too
