Installed new laptop ram, computer gone haywire. PLEASE HELP!!!

Yep. That was the last thing I tried but I'm up to date. Am sending it back first thing Monday.

By the way, the old ram in there had a speed of 1066mhz. The new stuff is 1866mhz. Does that matter re compatibility?

Yes it can be matter with compatibility, you bought wrong memory, it need to match memory speed as original memory sticks. Before you sent back on Monday, I suggest you to try set memory clock speed to 1066MHz in BIOS and see what happen.

For some reason I can't change the memory setting in BIOS. The option just isn't there.

Maybe that's because I shouldn't have anything over 1066mhz in there??? :(

I noticed this on Kingstons page

Easy installation and automatic overclocking; no adjustments in BIOS needed

If you can overclock, can you 'underclock' ram?

Then again, even if so, I seemingly can't doing anything at all with it in bios.

I'm screwed, aren't I?

Oh well guess you are screwed. :(

will it boot windows with the old ram?
in the past when iv changed hardware its messed my windows install up and iv had to reinstall.

Yeah, everything is totally normal with the old ram.

I'm not really bothered now. Got so ****ed yesterday I just gave up. I can't even be arsed with hassle of sending it back tbh. I'll chuck it in a cupboard somewhere.

I checked your original thread, your laptop Sony VAIO VPCEC1S1E/BJ is compatible with Crucial memory DDR3 PC3-12800 but ExRayTed recommended Kingston memory. I noticed something oversight about Kingston memory you ordered are PC3-14900 and VPCEC1S1E was not listed on Kingston memory search.

http://www.kingston.com/en/memory/search/options/

Your 8GB Kingston sticks is worth £59 cannot be returned to OCUK after 14 days so maybe you will have to ask ExRayTed for £59 because he is to blamed for stupid not done his homework properly gave you wrong memory recommendation. :p

If not then I think you should sell it on ebay or go to Cash Generator, Cash Converter or CEX stores rather than throw it in cupboard and lose value over years.
