Installed windows 8.1 now plagued with issues.

I'm sticking with 8 for now, I have tried upgrading to 8.1 three times now and every time I restart the system after install I get the error message "System_Service_Exception" and the system just keeps restarting and I have to use safe mode just to get into Windows, I have tried disabling all non windows programs including antivirus in msconfig and still get the error, I tried upgrading from a fresh Windows 8 install without any additional programs like antivirus installed only Windows 8 compatible chipset and LAN drivers to get internet access and still get the same error.

It would be helpful if it gave more information in the error message as to the cause, the only thing I can think is causing the issue is the chipset and LAN drivers as they are they are the only things I installed but they are the latest versions and obviously need to be installed so there's nothing I can do about that.

I would grab a Win8.1 RTM ISO(can do a MD5 check to make sure its a legit ISO) and do a clean install use the default Win8.1 install key(plenty of places on the net that list these via Google) then change the key after installation to your legit key ,that's what I did with one of my PCs.

I'm going back to windows 8

After installing windows 8.1 chrome doesn't connect to the net properly.(all over the web the issue has been reported)

My Samsung S2 wont get recognized

Numerous BSOD restarts

Its turd and not ready to be used.

Just thought I would give you a headsup

I too have to report no issues after upgrading to 8.1 on two wholly different computers. Chrome works normally and my Galaxy S2 is recognised.

I did the upgrade install instead of a fresh one, and there was a few hiccups with switchable graphics but that was sorted once the correct drivers were avaliable.

I had only a couple of BSODs so far which I can't seem to pinpoint, however every program I have installed seems stabled enough. There is a problem with Firefox however where I can't see the download drop down menu... resetting, creating a new blank profile or reinstalling doesn't work. Only running FF in safe mode works which is completely odd. I was hoping today's FF 25 update would fix it but nope...

Fixed it.

I did a clean install of 8.1 pro and made a Bootable USB stick. Deleted partition and created new one.

What I did do this time was to check for updates on the install by adding my wifi code in I didn't do this first time when I performed an upgrade.

If anyone is thinking of it upgrading...I would seriously suggest backing up your data and doing a fresh install like others have mentioned.

Chrome seems to be working but I did have to download this to get my phone working...

I was telling you not to post if you couldn't say something intelligent. You find it that hard to understand?

As I said, I find it adorable that you think you can tell me not to post, or give me conditions on posting.

Better response.

As above. Either way, you've misunderstood my point anyway, so I'll repeat it again.

I was making a commentary on the notion that "it's crap and rubbish because I have had problems with it".

It's a poor attitude and poor logic to have that conclusion for something when there are countless people saying that they have got on fine. It's not defending the upgrade procedure, or Microsoft, or Windows 8, it's pointing out that the process can't be fundementally broken (as is being suggested in the OP) if it's working for the most part.

Also, PEBKAC isn't necessarily suggesting that the person's an idiot or something that kind, it simply means that something the user has done could have been the reason for their issues coming up.

I had an issue with Chrome not loading until several minutes had passed (it would show in Task Manager). Also had a system tray message once got to desktop, about something not responding and to read Event viewer.

This happened on 8.0 upgrade from Vista, and 8.1 upgraded from clean install of 8.0

Can't remember what caused issue on 8.0, but the 8.1 install it was after receiving 4 updates, one of which was browser choice update.

Uninstalled Chrome and that cleared system tray pop-up. Installed SRWIron instead.

I had a few issues (on my laptop which I upgraded to 8.1 from 8.0) and have yet to test if they've gone - the time taken for my laptop to load dramatically increased after upgrading and the whole system was generally slower, however I'd found that it seemed to be putting full dependence on the inbuilt graphics (Intel HD) instead of using the dedicated GT650M. So hopefully it's sorted now.

As you asked, I'm using Kaspersky PURE 3.0 Anti-Virus, by the way.

Adorable huh? There's that word again. Should I be worried? OK, whatever.

Shall I spell out to you what PEBKAC actually stands for?

Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair. Kind of implies the user sitting between the keyboard and the chair is the problem. In fact that's rather more than an implication.

Yes, it's derogatory, and I will ignore you from now on.

That you think you can tell people what they can and can't post on the internet? Sure, why not? Worry away.

Lawdy lawd, I know what PEBCAK means, what I said is that it doesn't mean they're an idiot.

It means that they could have done something to cause the problem.

It's not an implication, it was a statement, of the above, that they might have done something that has resulted in or is part of the problem.

Further updates kinda show it to be the case too, with "My phone isn't connecting to my computer, I won't try reinstalling drivers though, I'll just instead give people a warning that Windows 8.1 is broken and doesn't work", that's almost a classic situation of PEBCAK.

Additionally, part of the issue with PEBCAK is that nearly everyone is completely unwilling to consider the notion that they might have done something that's causing their issues.

Everyone suffers from it at some point, most of the problems I've had with my PC have been because of it, it's not exactly hard or difficult for it to come up.

Been running it since the Beta and seriously not had 1 issue with it....no BSOD, everything works fine.....I would recommend upgrading....oh wait, because others have problems then that means it's rubbish

8.1 installed on a few family PCs and mine and friends. No issues at all with any of them. Been a couple of weeks now and all going great. All using Chrome too.

All the above were upgrades too.
