I have a new tube of chillfactor 3 and the phanteks paste which came with the TC14PE. Doing my cpu install today and wondering which is best to use ? will be using the 4-5mm blob method as recommended by Phanteks.

try the chillfactor first,if temps seem high try the phanteks paste, should be fine with either paste though on that cooler

Thinking the same thing also.

Phanteks recommend 4-5mm paste in a blob on the cpu spreader. Does that sound excessive ?

And I posted before about Thermalright recommending their stuff be spread out on the cpu speader but also on the base of the heatsink. That bit seemed strange.

Will go with the blob method I guess.

just put a small pea sized blob in the middle of the top of the cpu and the heatsink will spread it as you mount it and clamp it down

just one blob on the cpu will be enough no need to put any on the heatsink aswell

The blob method works best, particularly on flat based coolers like the PH-TC14PE.

They will both perform almost exactly the same in practice. Decent TIMs are all fairly comparable (aside from the liquid metal ones).

blob is defiantely best for the phanteks just had to remove mine and it had done an awesome job of spreading the tim all over the IHS
