Installing 5820K help!

Eek! Just fitting my 5820k into my motherboard. I'm pretty sure I have it in the right way - eg. lining up the little triangle top right. And the tiny hole at bottom right - but when I got to clamp it in there seems quite a lot of pressure on the first clamping pin. At an angle of 45 degrees from the board there's already quite a bit of resistance, and gently pressing further I can hear a very light.. sound - I don't want to say crunching as that sounds too dramatic - but kind of!
Is this normal? Is it normal that there'll already be quite a bit of resistance when the clamping pin gets to 45 degrees??
This is always my least favourite part of a build and I don't want to screw it up!

CPU sockets should be tight but it sounds like something is wrong. What motherboard is it?

its normal,its the sound of all the pins compressing against the cpu,cpu will only go in the socket one way anyway

keep pressing the lever till you can hook it under the retaining hook

Yeah, my own 4670K does 'creak' a little when I clamp it in place. I'm just naturally very over-cautious.

At least modern sockets are better than good old AMD Socket A. I remember fun times with screwdrivers fitting the stock cooler and then hoping your die didn't come off stuck to the heatsink.

Shouldn't laugh but that did make me chuckle.
Sometimes quite scary when you can hear metal on metal crunching however it beats pins on the CPU and making sure the majority line up before dropping it in!

Hello folks!
All is well... so far!
CPU temp reported a little high (41 degrees) in bios, but I'm told that in that environment cores work at max so a bit of heat is to be expected.
So, as yet no catastraboom!
