Installing a CPU Cooler - advice.

Hi all, I am anticipating delivery of a new pile of kit to put together in the next few days. I have bought a i7 920 with an Asus P6T Deluxe and a Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 cooler. I understand this cooler comes with adequate thermal paste.

I am happy with most aspects of building, prefer it to the software really. The thing that I wasnt happy about the time I built my S939 A64 was the temp results I got after installing a Zalman cooler on it. But I had initially put the stock one on there and replaced it coz it was too noisy.

So does anyone have any particular advice, caveats to look out for and tips in general for putting Heatsinks onto CPUS. Any weblinks of value?

Cheers,

L.

did you use any thermal grease, pads, or silver compound type things? if not definitely buy one, arctic silver is the best (supposedly, i have no real opinion on the matter not having used it) and thye arctic silver website has a guide as to how to put it on, what kinda temps were you getting? are you overclocking? was it actually an issue getting it on or simply wern't happy with the resaults?
you should be fine! they need a little bit more force than other components but they are built to take it, might be helpful if you install it before putting the mobo in the case, sometimes this gives eaisier access, also look at all of your fans, you need the heat from the components like vga and cpu to be outa the case asap, theres usually a case fan near the cpu which shouuld be blowing outwards, if your heatsink has a fan point it in the same direction, in my experiance they tend to work better when both of those fans are running at the same speed or the case fan faster as if the heatsink fan blows too hard then the case fan cant get the heat out and it gets blown around and into other areas of the case
