Anyone got any guides.

I have a knackered 360. I want a cheap 360 Slim. Looking at the 4GB one. I understand if I take my old 360's hard drive out of its enclosure I can install it straight into the slim.

Anyone have any guides?

Thanks in advance.

I watched a good one on you tube earlier today looks a pretty simple thing to do. Will have a look if i can find a link without linking to a competitor.

At the risk of being a ****, do you really need a video guide on how to unscrew a plastic enclosure and slot the drive into the Slim?

I've never looked at a slim properly so a guide would be good maybe it is an easy job I really don't know.

Would the old drive from my broken premium definitely work?

Cant link to any of the sites as most are pc related. Just try a search on google, from what i have read and seen yeah its just a sata hdd inside the case of an old 360.

You need a couple or Torq drivers (6 and 10 from memory) to get the old 360 HD case open (one screw under the MS silver label) and then you pop the HD cover off the slim and slot it in.

I put a bit of tape doubled over on the hard disk to make it easier to get out and then once it was locked onto the connector used lumps of bluetak to hold it in place. Works like a charm, if you have a problem with the content on the drive go to the live website and follow the DRM transfer instructions.

The 4gb comes with some thick black foam stuff in the box which makes a great 'hdd' support in the hole. Just stick some onto the hdd with double sided tape and your good to go :)

this is the route i took with my 250gb form a previous system, works a charm and i think it looks better in matte aswell, only annoying thing is when you start games you have to point to the hard drive instead of the internal memory, the im can be removed but the system has to be stripped so im not bothering, a 360 without warranty is like a German with a power fetish.

Is there no way to default it so that it defaults to the HD? That would be enough to put me off the idea of buying an arcade and putting my own HD in.

Can anyone confirm?

Doesn't seem to be but its a 2 button press change when you launch/install the game. You've still got 4GB of storage so its not like you can't fit your saves on the internal and your installs onto the HD, which is what I do.

I used to do this until my console died and I lost all the saves..:-(.. I now use a flash drive for saves and profile and the HDD for installs....

Aye, I pressed submit prematurely there I'm still recovering from a 02:20 start for an airport drop. I wasn't thinking about how wholly unreliable the rest of the console can and has been. You can do some unofficial backing up too I guess, but I would choose one carefully.
