Hi guys,

I want to install a loft ladder. My current hatch is pretty small and is heavily insulated so difficult to get in and out of. Having to mess about with ladders is also a pain.

Is installing a ladder as easy as buying something like this, cutting the plasterboard to the right length and drilling it all in?

Any recommendations for what to look for or will that one do fine?

Cheers

Check you ceiling rafter separation and choose a loft ladder to match. 400mm and 600mm are common I think. old houses which may have been hand cut roofing often have different rafter spacing. When I fitted mine to an old house I had to cut through rafter and then reinforce around the rafters I was cutting. If you have a relatively modern house you should find the separation is standard and so only need to cut plaster.

Also check if you ceiling is level, mine isn't. You'll want you ladder level otherwise the ladder will be off vertical.

Ha to cut through rafters too and made a larger entrance and then reinforced.
Was fine for the 10 years I was in the house.
