Installing a motherboard

Hi all. I have ordered the components for my first build. In the past I have got a company to build my rigs.

I have decided to build this myself to save money and for the satisfaction of building it myself.

I have been reading into the process of installing the components and the one that is making me nervous is the instalation of the mobo.

I have read about risks such as short circuits, components blowing and as I am spending a sizable amount of money I dont want to throw it away by making a mistake.

I was wondering how easy it is to make these mistakes and how risky it is to do it myself.

I know my way around a computer and really want to build it myself.

Is there some basic steps that i can take that will almost ensure that i dont blow all mhy brand new components?

Thanks

This is a step-by-step guide - link - explaining how to build a computer.

As long as you take precautions not to build up static or man-handle the components you'll be fine. Just hold the hardware carefully by the edges and earth yourself regularly - an unpainted pipe on a radiator is always good (or you could invest in a wrist strap.)

Installing the MB can be tricky with out a slide out tray - my advice is to install the CPU, cooler and memory first before installing the MB into the case.

Additional: Ideally, you would test that the system boots and is stable before you install the MB into the case - as this saves time stripping the system again if you have a problem and rules out case shorting as a possible cause.
