I have very little knowledge of networks & I want to change my present setup which is broadband cable via NTL set top box into a server.
The server feeds 3 others via 3 NIC using X over cables.
I’ve had problems, the network crash’s when transferring files larger than 20Mb so I thought I’ll make it a bit more professional and buy a 5 port switch.
Would it make sense to keep the server as the firewall and feed it into the switch avoiding having to install additional firewall’s on the other 3. I would grateful for any advice as every time I fiddle with the network it always causes problems.
The OS is WinXP pro SP2.
