Is there some kind of wiring convention for installing a new plug socket?

My friend is having new plug sockets installed in certain rooms of his new apartment, and the new sockets are not in line either horizontally or vertically from the nearest existing plug socket.

Is it ok to channel the wires in a straight line diagonally from the existing plug socket to the new location? (If that makes sense). I can attach photos if I didn't explain this very well.

An electician has already done two sockets. When I went round his apartment, I just got the idea that he hadn't done it correctly (I know nothing about electrics, so it might be fine). So I took a couple of photos (which I've now uploaded). When you buy new apartments out here, you just get the bare apartment, which you then decorate yourself. So the walls will be cleaned up after this.

Yeah, I would have freaked out if it was my apartment. I just hope my wiring isn't the same. I want to wall-mount my dvd player, but I'm too afraid to drill holes in my apartment now! I think I need to invest in a cable detector!
