Hey guys,

My new PSU has just been delivered and i'm hoping to put it in tonight. Now, i've changed other bits of hardware in my computer before but i've never swapped out a PSU by myself before.

I'm guessing its just a simple unplug everything + replace with new PSU and cables?

Is there anything special I should be aware of?

Thanks

Hennreh

Just earth yourself on a rad and don't forget the 4 or 8 pin for cpu power and check all connections are tight.

Basically this.

However, which orientation you install the PSU will depend on your case and the design of your new PSU. Most modern PSUs have a large intake fan on the "top", some cases have vents in the PSU area so you can face the fan into the case and it will draw cool air from outside. However, if your case doesn't have vents in this area then you will have to orientate the PSU so that the large cooling fan faces into the case to recieve it's intake air.

24 pin and 8pin cables to the motherboard, 6 pin PCIe cable(s) to the graphics card, sata power cables to sata drives, molex to any IDE drives or fan controllers etc. Can't go wrong :) if you have to force anything it's in the wrong place or the wrong way up.

i changed one for the first time last week, it was a piece of cake, just see what connecters go where with your current one and you can't fail,

think about the routing of the cables though to keep it tidy

ahhhh well its not going to plan.

The new PSU is very slightly bigger than my old one and I can't fit it in my case...

Does anyone have a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream case that could help? I coud fit it easily if I could take the top of the case off but I have no idea how - it has verrry small bolts in it that even my smallest allen key won't fit!

STRESSED.

What is the make \ model of the new and old and PSU.

I used the older version of that case many years ago and this will take a STD ATX psu.

Far as I am aware the Antec is a standard size PSU and should fit in fine, can you take any photos and post them up.

Is the shelf that holds the PSU up the part giving your trouble? The antec is slightly longer than some PSUs (at 160mm) but by no means is it a particularly long PSU (the one in my sig for example is 180mm long).

Have you tried a bit of messing around like clearing the DVD drive bays (temporarily) and using that extra space to maneuver it in?

Ok... my pc won't turn on.

Not sure what ive done wrong...

Theres a green LED showing on my mobo so I know the PSU is working... any ideas what could cause it to not turn on at all?

I mentioned this in my reply! :p

Least you did not do what I did and switch off the wall socket and forgot and wondered why I got no power :(
