Hi,

I have just bought a sata 2 Samsung Spin point hdd to be used as a storage drive on my pc. I already have a Seagate 7200.7 installed as a main drive with windows on it etc. I thought i just had to plug the new drive into sata 2 port on the mobo then format it in windows but the pc would not boot. Do i need to run the samsung utility program to prepare the drive? and if i really have to do this is there a cd iso version anywhere?. I can only find a bootable floppy version but i dont have any floppys and dont have the floppy drive in my pc.

Thanks in advance

Mark

Ok i got the pc to boot by putting the jumper on but the HDD is not showing in 'my computer' .

:D im getting there, ok ive just rebooted and its now showing at bootup, yay. So ive gone to disk managment and initialized the disk and im not sure what to do now. Do i click 'new volume' or 'convert to basic disk?.

New volume, this will create a partition and then allow you to format the drive. It will then be under "My Computer".

If windows has setup the drive as a dynamic disk its proberly a good idea to convert it to basic, unless you plan to use it with any software raid its not really needed.
