Installing a sound card...

I've had a look at various pc sites, but most of the guides appear to be ancient. So i was wondering if there is any set precedure for installing a sound card on my current system? as i've never done one before and just want to make sure i don't do anything stupid

Just install it then disable your on board sound and your good to go.

Ah ok cheers, would it possible to flick between onboard and sound card though? (Just thinking in case i come across problems with the sound card in some apps) Or will it definitely need to be disabled to stop it conflicting?

Just had a look in my bios and my onboard is set to auto, so with any luck it'll just recognise my sound card and disable the onboard automatically. I understand most newer boards do this now? If not its no trouble
