Ok, i've just bought http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-074-GI to replace my old GTX 280 that died on me a few days ago. Just wondering if, because the new one is pre overclocked, do I need to go through and special procedures when installing? I used to use MSIAfterburner for the fan control but have uninstalled that. No other software apart from the Nvidia drivers should be left to effect the card now. Should I boot in safe mode and uninstall the old drivers and use what's on the CD first?
I've heard a few stories about some of these pre-clocked cards not working properly or the clocks being stock and so on so i'd like ot get it right first time. Not sure what to expect :confused:

Do the safe mode thing and uninstall the old ones and also uninstall Afterburner, i am currently using the 285.27 beta's which seem to be working fine so u might wanna download thoes from the Nvidia site and install thoes, then download and install the latest version of Afterburner 2.2.0 beta 7 i think, some factory overclocked cards have been known to ship with stock voltages which have been unstable at the overclocked clocks but for the 560's i can't really help as to what voltages they normally run.
 
Yeah, heard some people say the card came stock so does that mean they intend for you to overclock it to the spec they state on the website? And if so does that not void the warrenty?

:Edit: nevermind. i've just re-read your post and saw you ment voltage only. Again though, could changing the voltage myself void warrenty?

Evga lets u overvolt without voiding the warranty and pretty sure Msi do also not sure about Gigabyte, u shouldn't have to tho, if it was shipped with the wrong voltage they should be able to send u a new bios with the correct one failing that an RMA, just test it out with some benchmarks and gaming, if it runs ok then it will have the correct voltage for the clocks.

Edit: Looking into it the Evga 560Ti SC runs the same overclock as urs and the stock voltage on thoes is normally between 1.038v and 1.088v, check with Afterburner what voltage it has and let me know.

Ok, I'll have a look with MIS Kombustor to check the clocks to see if they're correct while giving a little test at the same time as to not upset the card by installing somthing like Afterburner. I take it the card's clocks will be hard set in the bios then and not some software they supply with the OC version? Makes sence really :P

Thankyou for your help tonight. I'll try not to get too excited playing with my new toy and let you know how things work out. It's not arriving till Monday but at least I can worry a little less while I wait :)

Np, i think i have seen maybe 10 threads on multiple forums of ppl having issues with factory overclocked cards shipping with too low a voltage and that is for all the 500 series cards not just the 560's so when u think how many of these cards are bought it's a very low chance of it happening.
 
No need to uninstall drivers. Just put in new card and install latest nvidia driver set and go. Stuff is simple these days.
 
I still prefer to do the uninstall physX part then the driver then boot into safe mode and run driversweeper then boot back into normal and install the new driver then reboot, i am a bit anal about these things but bits do get left behind that can cause issues in some cases, cleaner the better :)
 
I have got the MSI twin frozr, just installed, went to Nvidia driver download, let them detect Gpu and d/load latest driver. You will also get their installer, with the option for a clean install. Simples.
 
It does but it also gives u the latest driver which is not always the best imo.
And i see ur from Newark, drove from there a couple of hours ago :P

Not always, no. In that case all you have to do is download all drivers and save to file. Then using the Nvidia tool, work backwards installing the previous, (always selecting clean install, so removing all trace of last installed driver) until you find the one that works best for you.

I'm back and the Card is installed. It's working beautifully :D I didn't uninstall anything apart from MSI afterburner and upgraded to the Beta Nvidia drivers and it's running perfect, no hastle at all! Ran the MSI benchmark tool and all the clock speeds are as stated on the OC box and it seems stable so voltage seems correct.

Oh just wondering, If I re-install MSIAfterburner: without changing any settings, would that risk voiding my warrenty? All I want it for is to see my voltages/clocks and so on without having win7 gadgets installed. Or better yet, is there any software out there that would show clocks/temp/voltage that I could use?

Ah, beautiful. I have an old version of CPU-Z and it only shows what gear I have installed. Didn't know there was a GPU version. Thanks for the link :)
 
Yea it's power saving 2D clocks, as for Afterburner u can install it without voiding the warranty, u can adjust clocks and voltages without voiding warranty simply because it's software adjustment and as soon as u fail to run the program or uninstall it the settings are back to stock, there is no real way for any manufacturer to know if u have run a slight overclock using this type of adjustment.
