Bad Idea?

I've basically done that, As i thought catalyst was a little unnecassary on an X800, And i've just been playing halflife 2, My neighbour had a problem with his PC so i went to fix it, Was gone for 10minutes at the most, I've come back to my computer, the screen that was displaying my Halflife 2 had gone black, and the screen displaying my desktop had gone all graphics glitchy like an overheat.

I've played games fine on it in the past, with catalyst on the machine, and i've no problems putting it back on again, But surely things like upping the fan speed when in game, etc should be in the basic drivers right?

ATI Tray Tools is a nice program :D So much lighter than Catalyst, maybe ATI should look into making it the new catalyst on next release :p

Anyways, Cheers, That sorted it, I made a halflife 2 profile, And just set the fan speed to max, A little noisey, But my game runs fine :D

Max fan? Try 75%, should be quieter, keep knocking the fan down til it crashes after playing for a while/gets 100+ degrees C hot :D No point in subjecting people to god horrendous noise if it can be averted. His card will likely be the coolest it's ever been playing HL2 though :D
