Anyone got a link which is SIMPLE to use to install? I have downloaded Beryl, just ain't got a clue how to install it...

Just found a site that tell you what to put in Terminal to install Compiz but just get this:

compiz --replace
Checking for Xgl: not present.

/usr/bin/compiz.real (video) - Warn: No 8 bit GLX pixmap format, disabling YV12 image format

Im actually starting to get pretty stressed with Linux, probably because nothing is straight forward to do lol...

Ubuntu comes with it already installed, all you need to do is enable the desktop effects :)

Open the compiz config and enable the cube and any other affects you want, you will need the 3rd part drivers enabled (i think ubuntu tells you this anyhow)
Looking at that error message would suggest your not using hardware 3d

I ticked it, and everything seems OK, so no error message came up, how do I use the 3D cube as I cant get the cube effect

OK. I can't remember exactly, as I'm on my work PC at the moment and therefore running Windows, but the process to get this going should be pretty simple. The first thing that you need to do is to enable restricted drivers for your graphics cards; I'm not entirely sure where this is in the menus but it shouldn't require the terminal.

Next up, you'll want to install ccsm (short for "CompizConfig Settings Manager"). I'm not sure if this is already installed on 9.10, but if not it should be easy enough to find in Synaptic.

Finally, go to the appearance menu, and enable effects. You can then run ccsm to change which effects are being used.

I've got all that, i just cant get the 3D cube effect I've seen on others...

Don't suppose you got a screen show of what I need to click have ya? I got several different options I can choose from for Display and 3D Cube. If I hold down Ctrl+Alt and move my mouse, I can flick between screens, but don't get the cube effect still :(

Think I may just give up...Tried changed aload of settings and It must be something I'm doing/not doing which is why it ain't working. I can flip my desktop, just not get the cube effect I want...Still unsure if I like Ubuntu or Windows...Swaying more towards Ubuntu though :)

I think that it's just control and then left click and drag to use the cube.

What do you mean when you say that you can flip your desktop? Do you mean that when you drag the mouse you "pull" the desktop, and it flips over to a second one? How many virtual desktops do you have? If it's only two, you won't get a cube; you need four...

But i didn't change it to 2 in the first place, which is why I cant change it to 4...

DONE IT :D

It was in General > Desktop Size

Thanks for your help mate. If you know how to put different images on different desktops and you have some spare time, please advise :)

Thanks mate.

Don't suppose anyone else knows do they?
I've seen in the Linux Wallpaper thread people have different wallpapers on each virtual screen...How?

Thanks
