Installing CPU cooler to Gigabyte Z170 Gaming 7 Mobo

Hey guys,

Had a delivery of computer parts this morning and I'm trying to install a Corsair Hydro H90 CPU cooler to the motherboard.

Should the backing plate sit flush with the motherboard? There appears to be no room for it..? Some help would be appreciated because I'm a bit lost.

I've just realised why it's called a backing plate, whoops.. hahaha
