Hey,

so I will attempt my first build ever sometime next week. I have read some guides about building your own rig and found most of them extremly informative. However I have yet to find a clear guide on what or in what order to install drivers.
First of all will i have to install any drivers for my motherboard (Formula Rampage 775 socket , so a bit on the old side)?
Secondly i will have a PowerColor hd 5850, what are the best drivers to use currently?
And in which order should I install drivers, and are there any other drivers I hsould install?

thanks jerry

I always do graphics, then motherboard, reboot, windows update, reboot, any others that I've missed and then that's it.

Sound drivers are always a pain for me. I let Windows sort those out for me. Had terrible issues with my X-Fi and Windows 7 64.

Could you be a bit clearer about what you are reusing? Is it just the 775? For the graphics card you just use the latest drivers available from the manufacturer's site, in this case ATi: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.HTML

Drivers are the last thing you need to think about here.

In order to help you choose parts you need to give us a budget, a list of exactly what components you need to get and say exactly what the computer will be used for.

Hmm im jsut a bit worried cause many people seem to have issues with the 5850 drivers. I jsut hope that the mobo and the ram I got will be fine (as i bought them of a mate a year ago.) Mobo was a replacement though, so its brand new and has never been used.

just put my first build together and i have to 2nd what aiir has said. that is pretty much the exact order i did mine in and have had no problems at all. when you've done all you can think of, just take a look in device manager and make sure there are no exclamation marks or the such like against any of your hardware devices

i've read his post to mean he already has all his parts, tho i could be wrong ;)

Hey panta, i already have my parts.
I am gonna reuse a q6600 on a formula rampage board and 8gb of corsair ddr2 800mhz ram.
I got myself a 5850, a spinpoint f3, a 750w bequiet darkpower pro and a titan fenrir as the cpu cooler. (and as case a antec 902).

Am i likely to run into any issues with that? I can if need be get myself an i5 setup but i would rather not atm.

thanks

ok thanks panta.

Yeah I heard the q6600 overclocks nicely as well, so once I have a stable system I will give that a try.

In any case if I run into any problems I can always just ask for help on here.
