Possibly a stupid question but I need to install the new ati drivers for my 4870. I downloaded the new driver set only (not control centre which I already have) from their site. Is it a case of just running the exe or do I need to go through steps to remove the current drivers. i don't know if it overwrites etc. First ati card!

I never bother removing the old drivers. I just install over them.

I think you might need to run the ATI driver installer and remove the CCC that way. 
Got a couple more BSODs this evening (0x0000007E) - I think perhaps some of the old ati drivers are lurking around. Is there a good way to anilihate all ATI related stuff off the system?
When I try and uninstall catalyst drivers through control panel as advised by ATI I get this 'fatal error'
