My friends S3 has gone screwy and I was thinking of trying to reinstall the f/w

as it wont fully boot I think sdcard may be only way to go

I am getting confused about how I build the card, I have access to another S3 though it is not rooted and as it is a company phone I cannot do this

From what I have seen the card may need to be built on a rooted phone, is this right?

You can just flash a firmware with Odin - a program for firmware flashing Samsung devices using download mode, ignore the SD card. Research a guide on how to flash a stock firmware and you should find all the bits and pieces you need.

is that through USB? if so then it's a no go as it won't boot fully and isn't recognised on a PC

Does the PC not recognise the phone at all in recovery mode? If you install Kies on the PC you're using it should recognise it. If the Kies drivers aren't on there it might appear to not be recognised. Anyway, that's what I'd try and do.

Here's a couple of links about flashing with Odin:

There might be a newer Odin but it shouldn't matter too much.

Also, you could try resetting as many options as you can in the recovery if you can get into it.

thanks, will have a good look at them

didn't try Kies in recovery mode only with it looping the boot

I see the tutorialfor-android.blogspot.no one is a blatant copy, word for word & images, of my tutorial on XDA. Hahahaha

Don't care really. XDA is dead to me, went to carp with the influx of n00bs & the mentally challenged, so not really concerned about it. Just find it funny that he seems to be claiming it as his work... he's got the part explaining PDA, Phone & CSC a bit wrong.

Download the firmware, put phone into Download mode, start of in, plug in usb able to phone and pc, flash firmware via online guides for flashing original firmware.

Don't bother with Kies it's poo! Odin is what samsung use if you send the phone away.

As for not booting what caused it to not boot properly? Has it ever been checked for the memory bug?
