In my HTPC I currently use the on-board graphics from the Abit AN-M2HD but it drops a few frames during Blue-Ray playback so I've just bought a ATi Radeon 3450 to do the decoding.

Should I just plonk the card in and install the ATi drivers? As I can't see how to un-install the graphics drivers as they are bundled with the motherboard drivers.

There should be an option in the BIOS to disable the on-board video. As far as the drivers, I doubt they are integrated with the motherboard drivers, so you should be able to remove them using a program like driver cleaner pro. What model of onboard video do you have?
