My mates wanting to update his head unit in his Rover 620i he just wants a CD unit so we have looked at a cheap Kenwood unit at under £50. Now I've installed a head unit into my Focus but I'm not sure how hard/easy it is with the Rover's, is there anything to look out/watch for or just straight forward?

I have a memory like a sieve and can't remember if the ISO loom connects the speakers as well?

Is there anything I need specific for the Rover or is it just;

Headunit
ISO Loom
Removal Keys?

Help would be much appreciated.

Yes, unless someone has hacked the wiring about, it will be a straight unplug and plug back in as it already has a standard ISO harness.

Its been a good few years since I installed a head unit in a 600 so I can’t remember if the aerial is standard, but the autoleads compatibility chart doesn’t have anything listed for it so it probably is.

To remove the oem Rover stereo you will have to take the centre console apart. It's not too hard if you follow the Haynes manual.

Nope!!!.

From Memory.. You just pop the OEM removal keys into the 4x holes in the stereo and pull... unclip the ISO leads (Brown and Black) and Aerial.. Take the old cage out (probly bend it doing so!!) push the new cage (supplied with the HU) into the slot.. Clip the ISO's into the loom on the HU and the Aerial (no adaptor needed) and push the unit in to the cage till it clicks!!..

You might need to use the 8mm support bolt with its rubber grommet (see the manual) if the HU is a bit floppy.. but removal of the HU is easy!!...

once all done put the trim panel on and fire it up!!..

Easy Peasy!! :cool:

Simian is correct. no need to remove any of the console.

Make sure you connect the "Remote" (I think it's usually blue) cable if there is one hanging off the loom, or the electric arial won't work

Both Simian and jpmonkey are correct, the HU is a piece of **** to change, pop old one out with a set of keys, connect new one up and slide it in. Be careful though, as the mounting depth is quite shallow compared to some other cars, wasn't a problem luckily.

Oh yeah I forgot, R0551 is right there.... you may find it a good idea to invest in a couple of cable ties to keep the cables out of the way of the back of the HU.
