Hey all,

I just bought an SSD and couldn't find my original snow leopard discs, so I got Lion on a disc by burning the dmg from the app store.

However, once I turn my mac on and hold C to boot from disc, I get a flashing folder show with a question mark in the middle.

Any idea how I can install lion onto my SSD?

I've tried holding the options key and selecting the disc. And before using a disc I tried to use recovery hd and install lion via the net but it doesn't go any further than "Loading Installation Information..." :(

How exactly did you burn it?

I re-downloaded Lion, opened the contents and then burnt the dmg to DVD using Disc utility.

I've checked disc utility in Recovery and the disc says its the Lion DVD - so as far as I know it's burnt it right

Hmm bizarre... That does sound about right though...

Fortunately, whilst I was waiting for some assistance, I tried Recovery mode again and it started installing it via the net :p

So it all ended up okay eventually :p

Another fantastic feature from OSX - Installing an OS over the net - Fantastic :D

You have to do it in a certain way to make it bootable. Need to Google it as I can't remember the exact process of the top of my head but it took me a couple of tries before I had a working bootable backup of Lion

Ahh that would explain it. I literally just selected it and clicked burn :p

As far as I know... You could install the new hard drive, and then boot into recovery mode. Then in the menu you can restore your backup from the time machine.
