Just to give me an idea, I have just installed shadows of angmar from cd which I thought would be a bit faster than simply downloading the entire up to date client.

How long will it take to get it up to date? I seem to be downloading at about 500 kb/s.

Thanks, its no problem to leave it running overnight downloading. But will I be able to play just the shadows of angmar content for now?

I'm on the "update programs" stage and its at 26% after 10 minutes.

I also have "examine game data" and "update game data" left to do, and I'm guessing the update game data will take a LOOOOOOONG time.

I installed from disc, which I bought when it came out. I quit quite a while ago, but started playing again with friends when it went F2P. I thought installing from disc and patching would be faster than downloading the client, but I'm not sure. It took a LONG time to update. Don't know how long, as I just left it to do it's thing.

The content on the original disc is well out of date now, waste of time to install from it. It will just re-download all of the data again most likely.

The only advantage of installing it from disk first is that you might avoid having that pando media booster thing installed on your PC, which knackers the download speeds, but you need the first time you download the game from scratch.

I simply downloaded the 12GB standalone Siege of Mirkwood Client once & stored it on my external HDD. From install to playable its about 10 minutes. Much easier than faffing around with Pando or the Launcher.
