Well, as I stated in my other thread on this page, I am going to sell my iMac once I get the logic board replaced so its good to go.

So, I've ordered a new Hard Drive and it should be with me tomorrow. I have OSX install discs here. What exactly do I do whenever I plug in the new hard drive when it comes to installing the operating system? Is it easy?

Any help much appreciated!

Pretty straightforward from what I remember when we did the MacPro's in our studios.

1. Plug in new drive
2. Restart your Mac, put the OS DVD/CD into the drive and boot from that.
3. Open disc utility from the menu and format the drive
4. Install OS X

I paniced when I installed a new HDD on my Mac Pro.

Not because I didn't know what I was doing, but because the DVD trays are software controlled.

Luckily they still open without a OS present, and I booted off the DVD fine

I thought the button is there if you open the flap up? There's a button on the drives used in G5 powermacs anyway, I could have sworn there's on on the MP too.

I had a bit of a flap because i managed to miss out the bit where it says you have to go to Disk Utility from the menu, I thought I'd borked my drive for about ten minutes! :(
