Guys,

Everything installed and working on my new build but having a major issue with the graphics card. Ive tried installing the drivers first but it fails due to there being no hardware installed which is understandable as the card isnt present at this point. So i install the card but then i cant get any signal via the GPU or onboard graphics so im pretty stuck ??

Monitor is the Samsung 27 3d LED flatscreen 120hz and im using the display port but tried with hdmi aswell with no luck ????

Am i doing something wrong ?

Reckon it could be faulty ?? Ive now tried another set of pci-e cables and still no luck....

Just to be sure, from the PSU ive got a 6pin connection and anither 6pin but with an added 2 pin to make it into an eight pin is that the correct ones to use ? Nothing else to connect with ... psu is a tx850m by corsair

What mobo do you have and which pci slot are you using? Is the pci-e slot disabled? (switched off on board if applicable).

You're using 6 pin pci-e and 6+2pin pci-e?

Do the fans spin up on the card at all?

Ive done everything you all suggested and still northing ....

Its in the middle brown slot of that helps and yes it does post as when i go to turn it off by pressing the front button it takes about 7-8 seconds to switch off which sounda like its at the login screen for windows ?!

Might try it with hdmi direct from the card, anything else ??

is the gpu even powering up? fans spinning? lights of gpu etc?

check the pins on the pci connectors make sure 1 hasnt dropped back so its not connecting right.

Yeah was gunna say all the fans and lights come on aswell which is even more confusing !!! Plus ive removed it and tried it in the second slot a couple of times with no luck ?

How about a driver update for the onboard graphics ? That may help ?

You should have a display well before Windows starts to load so drivers won't do a thing, if you're not getting any sort of display at all then either the card is faulty or there is some incompatibility with your motherboard, have you tried updating your motherboards BIOS if you're not on the latest?

No im not on the latest so that may be the best course of action, mobo is an asus sabertooth z77

Why doesnt it even work when i use the onboard graphics though ? The onboard only works when i unplug the card and reboot ?

Make sure no dust has got in to the PCI-E slot too, sounds dumb, but it could be shorting it out if there is any.

Howcome you put it in the 2nd PCI-E slot, is there something in the 1st one?

Ive just thought of something, do i need to disable the onboard graphics via the bios and enable the pci-e ? Think this may be the issue ??

Normally, the on-board graphics are disabled when a card is plugged into the PCI-E slot. Most motherboards have an option where you can override this by specifying which device to initialise first with options of 'Auto' (the default), 'On-board' and 'PCI-E'. It might be worth checking this in case it's set to on-board, but TBH it sounds like the card might be faulty.

Even if the PSU power cables weren't connected to the card, you'd normally see a display and it would stop at the BIOS telling you to plug in the power cables.

Does it POST? When you power on, can you hear any beep and does the HDD LED flash as if it's loading Windows in the background, (not statically on like when a system doesn't POST...)?

Have you tried the other ports, (HDMI and DP) if you've got the cables and monitor support?

The other possibility is whether there's a problem with the motherboard. Have you got another PCI-E graphics card that you could test in it?

Yes it does post and does load windows successfully as when i go to switch it off it takes about 6-7 seconds to complete rather than 1-2 seconds when it hasnt posted etc etc

I have tried the other port as well (HDMI), in the other PCI-E slot again with no luck....

Its not as if the card has no power cos everything spins and lights up :@

Dont have another card to try unfortunately :(
