I've managed to get myself a dirt cheap 4870 to replace my old 4670 but I was wondering, do I need to uninstall the drivers that the 4670 used from the machine first before I install the 4870 and what sort of performance upgrade will I see from the 4670 at 1680x1050?

couldn't tell you about performance, but you should be fine just popping the new card in, I'd perhaps run the driver install from ATI again just to make sure you've got the best driver installed.
Any issues, run driver sweeper and re-install drivers.

If its the latest cats you've got installed from your previous card you can probably just switch over and it'll be fine. However its worth an uninstall and reinstall just to be sure.
