Installing New Gainward Card (2 Power Connectors?)

HI

Just bought one of the Gainward 7800+ Bliss Cards and noticed that there are

two power connectors.

Have installed many cards over the years but have not seen one with two power connections. (OK, I'm behind the techincal curve with AGP MOBO)

Do I connect both to the power supply or just one?

The card comes with no documentation and the Gainward web site (oneline documentation PDF file) states that, one of the requirements is-

"Minimum 400 watt PSU and two unused HDD power connectors available."

Ca I get technical insight regarding the need for two power connectors and if i need to install one or both.

Thanks for any support.

You need to plug the two conectors in a same rail (same power line) so it will draw power more directly from the Power supply.
Don't plug it separately like in the same with the hard drive or Disc drive.
If your power supply has a PCI express power conector will be ideal.

Thanks for the reply.

Antect "True 550" PSU

Ok, the male ends comming from the card each have 3 plugs.
The female ends have 4.

The two ends I have free to plug te card into seem to be comming from a sinlge cable.
When I connect both ends from the card, my PSU shorts upon boot.
When I remove one end, it boots.

While the card seems to be working obviously if I am not getting the performance I should I want to resolve this issue.

Thanks fof any help.

On my PCI-E 7900GS i had 2 power connectors but was only able to connect 1, does it make a big diffrence in performance if i can connect the second one? Or not cos i dont think the one from the graphics card can reach.

The 2nd molex is for powering something else, case fan etc....

I wouldnt connect both up as you'll be sending the power from the PSU back onto itself by the 2nd molex, not a good idea.

Someone already tried the 2x molex's and it wouldn't work, lucky he never blew his PSU etc.. by having the power go down to his card, and the 2nd molex sending it back up to his PSU.

That card only has 1x PCI-E connector, its got 2x molex's, one to connect it to a 4x pin from the PSU to supply the power, and the other molex is used to power something else that you have, its just an extra one that replaces the one you used to power the PCI-E. :)

Say if you have no molex's left, then you would have to unplug something to get your card plugged in, well with the extra molex you don't.

Thick as a Brick

Feelin thick here.

Excuse my ignorance- or call me an idiot either one is fine-

So I understand, I dont have to connect both ends comming from the video card, only one?

Thanks.

I dont know tbh after reading this, i am pretty sure i renember my quick install guide saying i had to plug in both molexes from 2 seperate lines, and i did that on my old card, so not 2 molexes from the same group.
But if it works on one, i wouldnt worry about it just do some benches, some 3d stressing and look if its stable with 1 molex, and if it is just leave it...
