Ahoy

Please excuse my lack of knowledge. My new NEC 4570 Dual Layer writer should be here tomorrow and need some advice. I will be replacing a standard "DVD Rom" with the writer, I'm thinking of turning the computer off, replacing drives, use Power/IDE cables that was in use by old one, switching it back on. Will everything be okay? theres no drivers for this Writer or software/manual as its bare. Is there anything I need to do before I do this?

Thanks! :)

Win XP should sort itself out fine, if not a quick look at the prodct support page for them should sort any problems :)

Drivers are pretty standard for drives :)

never need a driver for years for optical drive. well dpends if was patch or driver to get xp to read RAM discs.

One thing i find sometimes is you need to update your burning software like nero to see the new drive.

Hi, its a pretty easy swap over, the one thing you must do is check the *jumper* settings on the back of the new drive and make sure they match the jumper settings on your old drive, i.e: If your old drive is a slave make sure the new one is set the same. . .
