Hi there

I have just ordered a Noctua NH-U12-P and Silvertone TJ07 as part of my new build.

Since the intake fans are at the back and the PSU is at the bottom I was wondering how people have installed this cooler and the fans into the case.

Nocuta's instructions also say to put a small blob of their thermal compound on the middle of the CPU. Will placing the cooler on top spread it around or is it best to spread the compound with a card?

Thanks in advance. It's been many years since I built a PC.

Just place a small 4-5mm diameter blob onto the cpu and then place the heatsink on top and twist it slightly back and forth to help spread the compound over the CPU. Then fix the HS securely - when the cpu heats up the compound should spread and fill any other gaps. (Some people just apply a blob and fix the HS without twisting.)

I normally use a piece of plastic or old credit card to coat the entire cpu with an ultra thin layer of thermal compound and then give it a little twist and tighten.

Yeah, i use that method too sometimes.

I use a few methods, which one I use depends on my mood at the time of fitting. My favoured is covering one finger with cling film and putting a rice size blob onto the cpu and then spreading it out as thinly as possible.

I recommended the blob and twist method, in my first reply, as it’s what Noctua actually advise for that particular heatsink and its supplied paste - but any of the above methods will work as long as you don't apply too much paste. ;)

I have used the cling film method before. I was most comfortable with that one as I knew the core was properly covered. My current CPU does not have a heat spreader as it is that old.

To be fair to your other question I dont know anyone with a tj-07 on air

However I would roof fans to intake, rear 92mm to exhaust and have it aiming to the back, having the hwatdink fancy upwards means it will be drawing hot air from gfx and psu
