Installing nVME drive makes storage drive disappear

I've got a strange issue that I can't quite figure out. I have two hard drives installed, a 500GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. I recently bought a nVME drive but when I install it, the 1TB HDD disappears. When I remove the nVME drive, it's back.

Any suggestions how to fix this?

What motherboard do you have and which SATA port is the drive in (and which NVME slot are you using if you have more than one)?

Some motherboards share resources between certain NVME slots and SATA ports. Check your motherboard manual for whether that's the case with yours.

Use a different port for the HDD, motherboard probably disabled certain sata ports to use nvme. Check the manual for any info about it.

Yeah it will be sharing pcie (iirc) lanes with the sata ports, it's something I specifically look out for on motherboards, I'd rather lose the 2nd and/or third pcie socket(s), it's not like we can use them with a gpu in the top one anyway lol

yup, found it. It's a MSI B450-A Pro Max. Ports 5 and 6 are disabled when M2 is in use. I'll get that swapped.

Also found out there's a BIOS update to fix a security issue. May as well do that too.

Thanks!
