I've got 2012R2 installed on an SSD and have done for quite a few months now. Never had any issues (touch wood!) and I've never had to configure anything.
All our 2012 R2 VMs have 40GB C: drives. Microsoft sorted out the problem of updates causing the Windows directory to swell over time. For VMs with more than 8GB RAM we put the swap file on a separate drive. But 60GB for home is plenty.
Any big software installs have to go elsewhere, obviously.
